- The AF5000 is a rechargeable, refillable kit, not a disposable. Single-use vapes have been banned from sale in the UK since 1 June 2025. This device was built for the rules that replaced them.
- Rated at 5,000 puffs. The 5,000 figure is the manufacturer rating for the kit with its supplied 10ml bottle.
- 650mAh battery, USB-C charging, draw activated. No buttons and no settings. You charge it and you vape it.
- A 1.2Ω QUAQ mesh coil with 20mg nic salt at 50/50. That is a tight mouth-to-lung draw at the legal maximum nicotine strength in the UK.
- Refilling is a vacuum pump, not a nozzle and a prayer. Push the supplied 10ml bottle into the side port and the pod draws liquid in on its own.
The AF5000 in plain terms
There is a lot of confusion around this device, most of it caused by the older Elf Bar products that shared a puff number. So, plainly: the Elf Bar AF5000 Prefilled Pod Vape Kit is a rechargeable, refillable device. It has a built-in battery you charge over USB-C, a pod you refill, and a bottle of matching liquid supplied with it.
The older single-use version of the 5000 is no longer sold, and nothing in this article should be read as a recommendation for it. The AF5000 is a better device in any case: you keep the battery, you keep the pod, and you choose when to refill.
Format-wise it sits with the other prefilled pod kits: grab and go simplicity, no coil to screw in, no wattage to set, but with the battery life and the refillability of a proper kit. If you are new to the format, our guide to buying a prefilled pod kit covers the ground.
The specification in plain English
| Spec | AF5000 | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| Battery | 650mAh, USB-C | A day for most vapers, charged with the USB-C cable supplied |
| Coil | 1.2Ω QUAQ mesh | Mesh heats evenly, so flavour holds up rather than fading |
| Pod | 2ml, side fill port | The UK legal maximum for a nicotine-containing pod |
| Refill bottle | 10ml, 20mg nic salt, supplied in the box | Enough liquid to refill the 2ml pod several times over |
| Strength | 20mg nic salt, 50/50 | The legal maximum, smooth enough for a tight draw |
| Activation | Draw activated | No buttons, no menus, nothing to learn |
Puff counts are manufacturer estimates based on a short draw. A long, deep pull uses more liquid and more battery, so treat 5000 as a ceiling rather than a promise.
How the refill system works
The refill mechanism is the part people get wrong, because it does not behave like a normal pod. There is no bung to prise out and no nozzle to squeeze. The device uses a vacuum pump: you push the bottle nib into the side port and the pod draws liquid in on its own.
- 1
Vape it down, do not run it dry. When the flavour thins or the draw feels weak, that is the point to refill. Firing a dry mesh coil is what kills the flavour permanently.
- 2
Find the side port. It is a small sealed hole on the flat edge of the device. Uncap the bottle supplied in the box.
- 3
Push the nib in firmly and hold. The pump does the work. Keep it seated until the flow stops, usually a few seconds, then pull the bottle straight out.
- 4
Wait five minutes before vaping. The cotton needs to soak. This one habit is the difference between a coil that lasts the whole kit and one that tastes scorched by the second fill.
The bottle supplied is a standard 10ml of 20mg nic salt at 50/50, which is the same specification as any compliant bottle on our nic salts shelf. The bottle is a separate item to the pod, and the pod itself holds the legal 2ml maximum. More on matching liquid to a prefilled device in our guide to prefilled pod kit e-liquid compatibility.
Flavours available
Elf Bar has kept the AF5000 range tight and familiar rather than chasing novelty. It covers the same ground the old bar-style devices did: a tobacco, a menthol, straight fruits and iced fruits. The product page lists what is on the shelf at any given time, and because each kit ships with a matching bottle, the flavour you pick is the flavour you live with for the life of the coil, so it is worth choosing with that in mind.
Availability moves with stock, so check the product page for what is on the shelf rather than assuming the whole range is there.
How it compares with the other big-puff kits

The AF5000 is not the only rechargeable prefilled kit at this puff count. The three it is most often weighed against are all in stock, and they take different approaches to the same problem.
| Kit | Rated puffs | Format | Pick it if |
|---|---|---|---|
| Elf Bar AF5000 | Rated at 5,000 puffs | Refill by pump, bottle in box | You want the simplest possible refill |
| IVG Smart 5500 | Rated at 5,500 puffs | Replaceable prefilled 2ml pod | You would rather swap a pod than refill one |
| Lost Mary BM6000 | Rated at 6,000 puffs | 1000mAh, one prefilled 2ml pod, pods in 0mg, 10mg and 20mg | You want the widest flavour choice |
| IVG 2400 4 in 1 | Rated at 2,400 puffs | Four prefilled 2ml pods, four flavours | You get bored of one flavour quickly |
The split is between refilling and pod swapping. Refilling, which is the AF5000 route, is cheaper per puff and produces less waste, but it means keeping a bottle to hand. Pod swapping, which is what the Lost Mary BM6000 pods and the Smart 5500 do, is quicker and lets you change flavour mid-week. Our head to head on 4 in 1 versus standard pod kits covers the multi-flavour option, and the IVG 2400 review goes deeper on that one.
Who it suits, and who should look elsewhere
Buy it if you used bar-style devices and miss the simplicity. The draw, the shape and the routine are all familiar. The difference is that you charge it instead of binning it, and refill it instead of buying another one.
Buy it if you want one flavour and no decisions. A fixed 20mg salt at 50/50 in a 1.2Ω mesh coil is a settled combination. Nothing to adjust, nothing to get wrong.
Look elsewhere if you want to choose your own liquid. The AF5000 is designed around its own bottle. If you want the run of the e-liquid range, a refillable pod kit from the pod kits section gives you that freedom for a similar outlay.
Look elsewhere if you want clouds. This is a tight mouth-to-lung device, the closest vaping gets to a cigarette pull. If you want a loose, airy direct-to-lung draw you want a sub-ohm tank, not a prefilled pod kit. Our guide on MTL versus DTL vaping explains the difference.
Running cost and the duty coming in
A rechargeable, refillable device already beats a single-use one on cost, because you are only replacing liquid rather than liquid plus a battery plus a coil every time. The duty does not change that comparison, because it is charged per ml on every liquid in the same way.
Vaping Products Duty starts on 1 October 2026 at £2.20 per 10ml plus VAT, which puts £2.64 of tax on every 10ml bottle of liquid sold in the UK. The duty is charged on liquid volume, so a device that wastes liquid through dry hits or leaks now wastes something taxed. Pre-duty stock is on sale until 31 March 2027. The full explanation is in our article on how much vape prices will go up.
On charging, use the USB-C cable supplied with the kit, plugged into a standard low-output USB plug or a computer port. Avoid fast-charge bricks, which can push more current than a small kit is designed for, and do not leave it charging unattended overnight. A 650mAh cell charged carefully will see the kit through its full life without the battery becoming the weak point.

Quick answers
No. It is a rechargeable, refillable prefilled pod kit. Single-use disposable vapes have been banned from sale in the UK since 1 June 2025, and the AF5000 is one of the compliant kits that replaced them.
It is rated at 5,000 puffs by the manufacturer. The figure assumes short draws. Long, deep pulls will get you meaningfully fewer, which is true of every puff-rated device on the market.
It is designed around its own bottle and the pump system expects that nib. If you want free choice of liquid, a refillable pod kit is the better buy. Any liquid you do use should be 50/50 and no stronger than 20mg.
A 650mAh cell covers a normal day for most mouth-to-lung vapers. Charge it with the USB-C cable supplied, from a standard low-output USB plug or a computer port, and avoid fast-charge bricks.
Because the coil is fixed and it ages. Mesh holds up well, but sweet flavours build residue on it over several refills, and because the coil cannot be swapped, the residue stays until the kit is finished. Tobacco, menthol and lighter fruit flavours leave the least.
It is the UK legal maximum and it suits a heavier ex-smoker on a tight mouth-to-lung draw. If it feels too strong for you, our guide on how much nicotine to vape works through matching a strength to your habit.
