Frequently Asked Questions

ELECTRONIC CIGARATTES

An Electronic cigarette (e-cig) is a portable, battery-powered device that simulates smoking by vaporizing E-liquid (containing PG and/or VG) and flavouring yet still delivering nicotine (nicotine levels can vary, down to 0 mg, depending on what the user wants), but without the other 3,999+ chemicals hidden in cigarettes. It generates a smoke-like vapour and provides the same hand-to-mouth, inhalation experience as smoking. It has been shown to reduce cravings among smokers, not just for nicotine, but also for the relaxation, associated with inhaling and exhaling vapour.
All e-cigarettes operate on a fairly simple principle: A liquid is converted to a vapour through the process of heating it. A battery sends an electric current to a wad of liquid-soaked wicking material that is tightly wrapped with a metal coil. Sending current to the coil causes the coil to heat up, much like a burner on an electric stove. Once the coil becomes hot enough, the liquid that is in contact with the coil also begins to heat up, eventually to the point the liquid becomes converted to a vapour. This vapour is then puffed or inhaled from the device. Because e-cigarette users are inhaling a vapour and not smoke, they often refer to themselves “vapers” to distinguish themselves from tobacco cigarette users. E-cigarettes come in all shapes and sizes and can be roughly categorized according to their simplicity, flexibility, and capacity. Another important distinction between devices is whether they are a closed or open system. Closed system devices cannot be modified by the user. The battery, coil, and chamber holding the fluid are self-contained. The only flexibility is being able to switch fluid cartridges to change flavour or nicotine strength. In contrast, all aspects of open system devices can potentially be changed to suit the user.
If you’re an adult smoker then the answer is yes. Non-smokers should not take up nicotine in any form. The addictiveness of nicotine as provided by vaping devices is as yet not fully understood, but it should be assumed that it does have the potential to cause dependence.
The costs of electronic cigarettes vary depending on the type. Most beginner kits range from £20-£30, intermediate kits usually cost between £40 and £60 and advanced kits costs £60 upwards. In terms of the maintenance cost, this is relatively low as the only items that need to be purchased in the short-term are atomizer heads (if you have a replaceable clearomizer/tank) and e-liquid. Typically, atomizer heads or coils as they are sometimes referred to, last approximately two weeks. This is all dependent on frequency of use and the battery voltage. The higher the voltage the less the lifespan of the atomizer head will be.
We recommend that you purchase one of our kits that come complete with everything you need to get started. In addition, we recommend that you purchase extra e-liquid with your kit to ensure that you have sufficient supplies.

E-LIQUIDS

All E-Liquid consists of Vegetable Glycerine, Propylene Glycol, flavourings, nicotine and in some cases a colouring Some Juices are 100% VG which means they contain no Propylene Glycol. Max VG does not necessarily mean there is no Propylene Glycol (PG) in the Juice. This means that the juice has a very high VG content. Propylene Glycol (PG): – Propylene Glycol is high quality pharmaceutical grade, in combination with the nicotine and flavours this gives you more of a throat hit. Vegetable Glycerine (VG): – Glycerine helps to produce more vapour and holds more flavour. Please note: If you are ever unsure of these ingredients or suffer from allergies, please contact your Doctor. For a full Ingredients list of any particular flavour please email us and we will be happy to supply. Be aware that some of our products do contain traces of nuts. In case of an accident, or if you do feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately. Is nicotine harmful? There is much debate about nicotine, but on its own nicotine has never been shown to be harmful. Much of the negativity surrounding nicotine stems from its combination with tobacco cigarettes.

There is no one-size fits all answer here, so the best thing you can do is to try out a few e-liquids and see which one suits you. Interestingly, don’t assume that you need an authentic tobacco flavour. There are some good ones out there, but we find that the vast majority of vapers end up choosing a flavour other than tobacco, and this happens very quickly if they try a few different ones to begin with. In terms of PG/VG, you’ll have to try for yourself and decide what you like.

This is, in a way, the trickiest question of all because ultimately it’s a personal preference. You need to try out vaping to see what you like. Some vapers simply prefer a stronger nicotine e-liquid but on a lower powered device, whereas others prefer less nicotine but on a more powerful device. And some people are somewhere in the middle! Also, vapers differ in how much nicotine they need, and how much they want to vape overall. So, if you want to vape less, use a stronger e-liquid, if you find you’re getting too much nicotine from the amount you like to vape, move to a less strong liquid.

CLEAROMIZERS / TANKS / COILS

Atomizer refers to the atomizer head that is in all clearomizers and tanks. The atomizer head refers to the element, which is heated when the battery is activated and this is responsible for producing the vapour. Typically atomizer heads last for about two weeks, but this is not the case all the time. As they are very fragile they can stop working after a few days if they are used excessively or if the wattage is too high. All atomizers have a Dead on Arrival warranty, this means that as soon as you receive the product you need to test it to see if it works, as soon as it works the warranty period ends. Atomizer heads are referred to as disposable goods and are not meant to last longer than a few weeks. The majority of clearomziers/tanks we sell are replaceable units; this means that the only part that needs to be changed within the unit is the atomizer head. You can tell if the atomizer head needs to be replaced when there is a significant lack of vapour or if you get a burning almost smoky taste.
This could be for a few reasons, it could be that the coil is flooding due to over priming, firing at an insufficient wattage or a burnt coil. If your atomiser head is burnt/deteriorated, it is unable to further saturate e-liquid; causing leakage. You will need to replace your atomiser head in order to resolve the leakage.
Yes you can, but it is recommended that you clean the clearomizer/tank meticulously to remove the former flavour. After a few vapes, the former flavour should disappear. If it does not, the coil may be compromised.

Unless you are specifically using a sub ohm device, this typically comes down to personal preference. Below is a summary of pros and cons for using high or low resistance coils.
Low resistance coils
· More vapour produced
· Warmer vapour
· Potentially more intense flavour
· Drains battery quicker
· Increased likelihood of dry hits
· Uses more e-liquid per puff
High resistance coils
· Less vapour produced
· Cooler vapour
· Potentially more intense flavour
· Drains battery slower
· Less chance of dry hits
· Uses less e-liquid per puff

E-cigarette coils are available in a variety of resistances which can be found printed on the packaging and typically on the coil itself. These are indicated by a number followed by the word “ohms” or the symbol “Ω” – for example 0.5 ohms or 0.5 Ω.

Coil resistance is measured in “ohms” which essentially indicates how quickly electricity is able to travel through something. In short, the lower the coil resistance, the easier it is for electricity from your battery to travel through the coil. How does the coil resistance affect my e-cigarette? Essentially, the lower the coil resistance the quicker the coil will heat up, creating more vapour and typically a warmer hit. A higher coil resistance will take longer for the coil to heat up, producing less vapour and typically a cooler hit.

BATTERIES

If your battery is not charging it may be due to a number of different factors. Firstly, ensure that the charger you are using is the correct charger for the battery. Next, make sure that you are charging the battery the correct way. Some batteries are charged via the top connection (510 charger), others charged from the bottom via a micro USB. Mods that take external batteries require an external charger for the battery cells, although some also have a micro-usb port.

Make sure that your battery is charged significantly before using it. The batteries we send out do have a charge in them but it is possible that a battery can have lost its charge.
Different devices have different methods to turn the battery on. The most common ways to turn the battery on are as follows:
Click the power button rapidly three times
Click the power button rapidly five times

Below are averages for different size batteries, these approximations refer to continuous use (non-stop vaping).
1000mAh battery: 3-5 hours
1600mAh battery: 5-9 hours
Note:
Above approximations are for a fixed voltage of 4volts, turning the voltage higher will give less battery time.

Ask a Question

×
  • QWhat’s a nicotine shot and how do I use one?

    A

A nicotine shot (or nic shot) is a small bottle of concentrated nicotine that you add to a larger bottle of nicotine-free e-liquid, usually a shortfill. Just pop the top off your shortfill, pour in the nic shot, give it a good shake, and you’re good to go.

  • QDo I need a rechargeable battery for my vape?

    A

That depends on your device. Many vape mods require external rechargeable batteries, so it’s handy to have a few charged spares ready to go. It keeps your vape going strong and saves you from waiting around for one to charge.

  • QWhat is vape cotton and why is it important?

    A

Vape cotton is used in rebuildable atomisers (like RDAs or RTAs) to wick the e-liquid. Good quality cotton ensures better flavour and vapour production. It’s a must-have if you’re into building your own coils.

  • QHow do I know if I need replacement glass for my vape tank?

    A

If you’ve accidentally dropped your tank and the glass has cracked or broken, it’s time for a replacement. Even if it’s just a small chip, swapping it out can prevent leaks and keep everything in working order.

  • QAre these accessories compatible with all vape devices?

    A

Not necessarily. Some accessories are universal, like nic shots and cotton, but others—like batteries and glass tanks—can vary depending on your device. It’s always best to double-check your device’s requirements before buying.

  • QHow should I store my spare vape batteries safely?

    A

Always store spare batteries in a proper battery case—never loose in your pocket or bag. Keep them away from heat, direct sunlight, and anything metal to avoid accidental discharges or damage.

  • QCan I mix different nic shots or use more than one?

    A

You can mix nic shots as long as they’re the same nicotine base (e.g. both freebase or both nic salt). Using more than one is fine too—just be sure you’re calculating the final nicotine strength correctly to suit your preference.

  • QWhat makes a vape kit 'advanced'?

    A

Advanced vape kits offer greater control over your vaping experience. They usually include a high-powered mod with adjustable settings like wattage, voltage and temperature, as well as a sub-ohm tank or rebuildable atomiser. They’re ideal for users who want to fine-tune every aspect of their setup.

  • QWho should use an advanced vape kit?

    A

These kits are best suited to experienced vapers who are comfortable adjusting settings and maintaining more complex devices. If you’re looking for bigger clouds, richer flavour and more control, an advanced kit is a solid choice.

  • QWhat’s the benefit of variable wattage and temperature control?

    A

Adjusting wattage lets you control how much power is sent to the coil, which affects vapour production and warmth. Temperature control allows you to set a maximum heat level, which can help prevent dry hits and extend coil life. Both features give you more precision over your vape.

  • QDo advanced kits come with everything I need?

    A

Most advanced kits include a mod, a tank and at least one coil. You’ll usually need to buy e-liquid separately, and depending on the model, you might also need to purchase external batteries. Always check the product details to see what’s included.

  • QWhat is sub-ohm vaping?

    A

Sub-ohm vaping uses coils with a resistance below 1.0 ohm. It’s designed for direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping and produces large clouds and intense flavour. Sub-ohm tanks are common in advanced kits and work best with lower nicotine strengths.

  • QWhat’s the difference between a sub-ohm tank and a rebuildable atomiser?

    A

Sub-ohm tanks use pre-made coils and are easy to install and replace. Rebuildable atomisers (like RDAs and RTAs) let you build your own coils and wick them with cotton, offering even more customisation but requiring more knowledge and maintenance.

  • QCan I use nic salts with an advanced kit?

    A

It’s generally not recommended. Nic salts are designed for low-wattage, mouth-to-lung devices and can feel too strong in a high-powered sub-ohm kit. Stick to freebase e-liquids with lower nicotine strength for the best experience.

  • QAre advanced kits safe to use?

    A

Yes, as long as you follow the manufacturer’s instructions and understand how to use the features correctly. Always use the correct batteries, stay within recommended wattage ranges and check that your tank and coils are compatible with your mod.

  • QHow often will I need to change the coil in an advanced kit?

    A

That depends on how often you vape and the type of e-liquid you use. On average, sub-ohm coils last about one to two weeks. Sweet or heavily flavoured liquids can reduce coil life more quickly.

  • QIs an advanced kit worth the upgrade from a starter kit?

    A

If you’re ready for more power, custom settings and a richer vaping experience, then absolutely. Advanced kits give you flexibility and performance that starter kits just can’t match.

  • QWhat type of vape charger do I need?

    A

It depends on your device. If you’ve got a vape with a built-in battery, a USB charger (often included with the kit) will do the job. If your device uses removable batteries, you’ll want an external battery charger like the Nitecore i2 or the Efest Slim K2 for faster, safer charging.

  • QAre external battery chargers better than USB charging?

    A

Yes, in most cases. External chargers charge your batteries more efficiently and often include extra safety features like overcharge protection and temperature control. They’re especially useful if you use mods with dual or multiple batteries.

  • QCan I use any charger with my vape batteries?

    A

It’s important to use the right charger for your battery type. Stick with reputable brands like Nitecore, Efest, Basen or Golisi, and make sure the charger supports the size and chemistry of your batteries (like 18650s or 21700s). Avoid cheap or unbranded chargers—they’re not worth the risk.

  • QIs it safe to leave vape batteries charging overnight?

    A

Even with safety features built into modern chargers, it’s best to avoid charging overnight or leaving batteries unattended while charging. Unplug once fully charged to keep everything in good nick.

  • QWhat’s a multi-bay charger?

    A

A multi-bay charger has two or more slots so you can charge several batteries at once. Great if you use a dual-battery mod or like having spares ready to go. Just make sure you’re using matched batteries and following safe charging practices.

  • QCan I charge my batteries faster with a higher amp charger?

    A

Some chargers support faster charging rates, but it’s important to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for your batteries. Charging too fast can reduce battery lifespan or cause overheating. Safer and steadier is usually better.

  • QDo vape chargers come with a power cable?

    A

Most do, but not all. Some come with a USB cable only, and others may require you to use your own plug or power source. Check the product description so you’re not caught short.

  • QCan I use a phone charger plug with my vape charger?

    A

Generally yes, but make sure the output is suitable. Many vape chargers recommend a 5V 1A or 2A plug. Avoid using fast-charge phone adapters unless the charger specifically says it’s compatible.

  • QWhy is my charger getting warm during use?

    A

A bit of warmth is normal, especially during heavy use or multi-battery charging. However, if it’s getting hot or you notice anything unusual like strange smells or flickering lights, stop using it and check for faults.

  • QHow long does it take to charge a vape battery?

    A

It depends on the battery capacity and the charger’s output. A typical 18650 battery takes around 2–4 hours in a standard charger. Faster chargers can reduce this, but always put safety first.

  • QWHAT IS A VAPE COIL?

    A

A vape coil is a small, replaceable component found inside your tank or pod. It heats up when you press the fire button, vapourising your e-liquid so you can inhale it. Different types of coils affect flavour, vapour production, and the style of vaping.

  • QDOES ANY COIL FIT ANY VAPE?

    A

No, coils are designed to fit specific tanks or pods. Always check your device’s compatibility before buying new coils. Using the wrong coil may damage your vape or cause it not to work properly.

  • QWHAT IS A VAPE COIL MADE OF?

    A

A coil consists of a metal wire and a wicking material (usually cotton). The wire heats up when powered, and the wick soaks up e-liquid. Together, they create vapour. Coils come in different resistances and styles depending on whether you prefer mouth-to-lung (MTL) or direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping.

  • QWHAT IS RESISTANCE AND OHMS AND WHICH ONE IS BEST FOR ME?

    A

Resistance, measured in ohms (Ω), affects how your coil performs.

    1. Higher resistance (above 1.0Ω) is ideal for MTL vaping – tighter draw, less vapour, and stronger throat hit.

    2. Lower resistance (below 1.0Ω) is for DTL vaping – more vapour, warmer hit, and generally higher power.

For standard MTL vaping, coils between 1.0Ω and 1.8Ω are usually best.

  • QWHEN SHOULD I REPLACE MY COIL?

    A

You should replace your coil every 1–2 weeks, or sooner if:

    • Your vape tastes burnt

    • Flavour or vapour production drops

    • You hear gurgling sounds

    • You see darkened or burnt-looking wicking

  • QWHICH COIL IS BEST FOR MY VAPE?

    A

The best coil is the one made specifically for your tank or pod. Within that range, choose based on your preferred style of vaping. For MTL, higher-resistance coils work best and use less power and e-liquid.

  • QWHAT ARE TEMPERATURE CONTROL COILS?

    A

Temperature control (TC) coils are made from specific metals like stainless steel, nickel, or titanium. They work with TC-enabled mods to regulate coil temperature automatically, helping to prevent dry hits and burnt taste. They’re less common in standard MTL setups.

  • QWHY DOES MY VAPE TASTE BURNT WITH NEW COIL?

    A

This usually means the coil wasn’t primed properly before use. The cotton inside needs to be saturated with e-liquid before you start vaping. If not, the dry wick burns when heated, causing a burnt taste even with a new coil.

  • QHOW TO CHANGE A VAPE COIL?

    A
    1. Remove your tank/pod from the device.

    2. Empty any remaining e-liquid.

    3. Unscrew or pull out the old coil.

    4. Insert the new coil securely.

    5. Fill the tank with e-liquid and let it sit for 5–10 minutes to prime.

  • QHOW TO CLEAN A VAPE COIL?

    A

Cleaning can extend coil life, though it’s more effective with rebuildable coils. For standard coils:

    1. Rinse under warm water.

    2. Let it soak in vodka or warm water for a few hours.

    3. Rinse again and let it dry completely. Note: Cleaning doesn’t always restore full performance – replacing may be better.

  • QHOW TO FIX BURNT COIL VAPE?

    A

Unfortunately, once a coil is burnt, it usually can’t be fixed. However, you can try:

    • Cleaning it to remove excess gunk

    • Priming it better next time

    • Lowering your wattage to prevent overheating Often, the best fix is to replace the coil.

  • QWHAT DOES PRIMING A COIL MEAN?

    A

Priming means saturating the coil’s wick with e-liquid before using it. You can do this by:

    • Adding a few drops directly onto the cotton (if visible)

    • Filling the tank and letting it sit 5–10 minutes Priming prevents burning the wick and helps the coil last longer.

  • QWhat’s the difference between a vape coil and a vape pod?

    A

A vape coil is the heating element that vaporises your e-liquid. It sits inside a tank or pod and needs replacing regularly. A vape pod is a self-contained unit that usually includes the coil and the e-liquid chamber, and sometimes even comes pre-filled or refillable depending on the system.

  • QHow often should I change my coil or pod?

    A

It varies depending on how much you vape, the type of e-liquid you use and your device, but a good rule of thumb is every 1–2 weeks for coils and every 1–3 weeks for pods. You’ll know it’s time when the flavour starts to taste burnt or muted.

  • QHow do I know which coil or pod is compatible with my device?

    A

Always check the product name and specs. Coils and pods are usually brand-specific and sometimes even device-specific. If you’re not sure, just drop us a message—we’re happy to help.

  • QWhy does my vape taste burnt even with a new coil or pod?

    A

This can happen if the coil or pod wasn’t properly primed. Always let the e-liquid soak into the coil for a few minutes before vaping and start at a lower wattage if your device allows. It gives the coil time to saturate and avoids dry hits.

  • QAre pods better than tanks and coils?

    A

It depends on your style. Pods are convenient, mess-free and great for beginners or people who want an easy setup. Tanks and coils offer more customisation, bigger clouds and are usually preferred by more experienced vapers.

  • QWhat resistance coil should I choose?

    A

Higher resistance (1.0Ω and above) is best for MTL (mouth-to-lung) vaping with stronger nicotine or nic salts. Lower resistance (below 1.0Ω, also known as sub-ohm) is ideal for DTL (direct-to-lung) vaping with bigger clouds and smoother hits. Check what your device supports before choosing.

  • QCan I clean and reuse my vape coil or pod?

    A

Coils are usually designed for single use and don’t perform well after cleaning. Some refillable pods can be rinsed and reused a couple of times but eventually the coil inside will wear out. If in doubt, replace it—it’ll taste better.

  • QWhat affects coil lifespan?

    A

A few things: how often you vape, the sweetness of your e-liquid (sugary liquids gunk up coils faster) and whether you’re using the right wattage. Treat your coils kindly and they’ll last longer!

  • QAre pre-filled pods available or do I have to fill them myself?

    A

Both options exist. Some pod systems use pre-filled pods you just pop in and go while others use refillable pods you can top up with your own e-liquid. Be sure to check the type your device takes.

  • QDo you sell coils and pods in multi-packs?

    A

Yes, most of our coils and pods are available in multi-packs to keep you stocked up and save a bit in the long run. Popular options include the VAPORESSO XROS COREX 2.0 REPLACEMENT PODS (4 PACK) and the OXVA XLIM V2 REPLACEMENT PODS (3 PACK) Have a browse and see what’s available for your device.

  • QWhat is vape cotton used for?

    A

Vape cotton is used in rebuildable atomisers like RDAs and RTAs to absorb e-liquid and deliver it to the coil. When the coil heats up, it vapourises the liquid held in the cotton, producing the flavour and vapour you inhale.

  • QCan I use regular cotton for vaping?

    A

It’s not recommended. Vape cotton is specially processed to be free from chemicals, bleach and pesticides that are often found in standard cotton. Using the wrong type of cotton can affect taste and may be unsafe to inhale.

  • QWhat type of vape cotton is best?

    A

Organic, unbleached cotton is the gold standard for vaping. Brands like Cotton Bacon, Muji and Firebolt are popular for their purity, heat resistance and excellent wicking ability.

  • QHow often should I change my vape cotton?

    A

That depends on how often you vape and the type of e-liquid you use. On average, you should replace your cotton every couple of days, or whenever the flavour starts tasting burnt or muted.

  • Q
How do I know when to replace my cotton?

    A

Signs include a burnt or off taste, discoloured cotton or if the vapour starts to feel dry. If your coil is still in good shape but the flavour has dropped off, it’s probably time for a re-wick.

  • QIs vape cotton reusable?

    A

No, once vape cotton has been used and exposed to heat and e-liquid, it should be replaced. Reusing it can lead to poor flavour and dry hits.

  • QDoes the type of e-liquid affect how long my cotton lasts?

    A

Yes. Sweet or dark-coloured e-liquids tend to gunk up your cotton more quickly. Clear, less sugary liquids usually help your cotton and coils last longer.

  • QHow do I prepare vape cotton for use?

    A

After inserting the cotton through your coil, trim the ends and gently fluff them to improve wicking. Make sure it’s not packed too tightly or too loosely. Then saturate it fully with e-liquid before firing your device to avoid dry hits.

  • QCan I use vape cotton with all devices?

    A

Vape cotton is specifically for rebuildable devices like RDAs, RTAs and some RDTAs. If you’re using a tank with pre-made coils, there’s no need to use or replace cotton manually—the cotton is built into the coil head.

  • QWhat’s the difference between pre-cut cotton and cotton pads?

    A

Pre-cut cotton is ready to thread through your coils, saving time and effort. Cotton pads come in sheets that you’ll need to cut and roll yourself. Both work well, so it comes down to preference and convenience.

  • QHow do disposable vape kits work?

    A

Disposable vapes are pre-filled, single-use devices that come with a built-in battery and e-liquid. Simply inhale to activate – there are no buttons, settings, or refills. Once the e-liquid runs out or the battery dies, the entire device is discarded.

  • Q
Can I travel with disposable vapes?

    A

Yes, you can travel with disposable vapes, including on aeroplanes. Carry them in your hand luggage, not checked baggage, due to battery regulations. Check local vaping laws at your destination, as some countries restrict or ban vaping products entirely.

  • QHow much do disposables cost?

    A

In the UK, disposable vapes typically cost £4 to £6 each, depending on the brand and retailer. Multi-buy deals (e.g., 3 for £12) can offer better value. However, refillable kits and bottled e-liquid are more economical over time.

  • QAre disposable vapes safe?

    A

Disposable vapes sold legally in the UK must meet strict safety standards, including TPD regulations. They are safe for use when purchased from reputable retailers, but like all nicotine products, they are not recommended for non-smokers or under-18s.

  • QWhat do I do when a disposable runs out?

    A

When your disposable vape stops producing vapour or tastes burnt, it’s time to safely dispose of it. Since they contain batteries, it’s best to recycle them at designated battery collection points rather than putting them in general waste.

  • QWhat are disposable vapes?

    A

Disposable vapes are all-in-one vaping devices pre-filled with nicotine salt e-liquid, designed for single use only. They’re compact, easy to use, and require no charging, refilling, or maintenance, making them popular with beginners and as a backup device.

  • QWhat are the advantages and disadvantages of disposable vapes?

    A
    Advantages Disadvantages
Easy to use – no setup or maintenance Higher cost per use over time
Portable and pocket-friendly Limited flavour and nicotine strength choices
Great for beginners or occasional use Not environmentally friendly (single-use plastic)
No need to carry e-liquid or chargers Short battery life – lasts only a day or two
  • QAre disposable vapes being banned in the uk?

    A

Yes. In October 2024, the UK Government confirmed plans to ban disposable vapes, aiming to reduce both environmental waste and youth vaping. The ban is set to come into force in June 2025, meaning the sale of disposable vapes will no longer be permitted after this date.

For the latest updates and guidance on how this ban may affect you, visit our Why Is The UK Banning Disposable Vapes And How Will It Affect You? blog.

  • QWhat vapes are being banned?

    A

Only single-use disposable vapes are being banned. These are devices that come pre-filled with e-liquid and are not rechargeable or refillable, designed to be discarded once empty. Popular examples include Elf Bar 600, Lost Mary BM600, and SKE Crystal Bar.

Refillable pod kits, rechargeable devices, and e-liquids are not affected by the ban and will continue to be legal to purchase and use.

  • QHow can I beat the disposable vape ban?

    A

You can switch to a refillable pod kit or rechargeable vape device. These offer a similar experience to disposables but are cheaper in the long run, better for the environment, and fully legal post-ban.

Here’s how to make the switch simple:

    • Choose a refillable pod kit designed for nicotine salts or 50/50 e-liquids for a smooth, satisfying vape.
    • Look for devices with draw activation and compact size, similar to disposables.
    • Save money and get more flavour choice by using e-liquid bottles instead of prefilled pods.

  • QWhat is DIY vaping?

    A

DIY vaping involves mixing your own e-liquid using flavour concentrates, PG (propylene glycol), VG (vegetable glycerine) and nicotine shots. It gives you full control over the flavour, strength and consistency of your vape.

  • QWhat are flavour concentrates?

    A

Flavour concentrates are highly concentrated flavourings used as the base of DIY e-liquids. They’re not meant to be vaped on their own and must be diluted with PG and VG before use.

  • QWhy would I mix my own e-liquid?

    A

DIY mixing lets you customise every aspect of your vape, from flavour strength to nicotine content and PG/VG ratio. It’s also cost-effective and ideal for vapers who want to experiment or create their own unique blends.

  • QWhat do I need to start mixing e-liquid?

    A

You’ll need flavour concentrates, PG, VG, nicotine shots if you want nicotine, and a few basic tools like syringes, bottles and gloves. A good recipe and a little patience also go a long way.

  • QCan I vape a flavour concentrate on its own?

    A

No. Flavour concentrates are far too strong to vape without dilution and are not designed to be inhaled in pure form. Always mix them properly with PG and VG before vaping.

  • QWhat’s the best PG/VG ratio for DIY e-liquid?

    A

That depends on your device and personal preference. A 50/50 mix offers a balanced throat hit and vapour, while a higher VG ratio gives smoother hits and bigger clouds. Use more PG if you want a stronger throat hit and more VG if you prefer a smoother vape.

  • QHow do I add nicotine to a DIY mix?

    A

Nicotine shots (nic shots) are added to your PG/VG base before adding flavour. The amount you use depends on the strength you want. Online calculators can help you get the right ratio safely and accurately.

  • QDo I need to steep my DIY e-liquid?

    A

In many cases, yes. Steeping allows the flavours to blend and mature over time. Fruity mixes may only need a few days, while desserts or tobaccos often benefit from a week or two. Shake well and store in a cool, dark place for best results.

  • QIs DIY mixing safe?

    A

Yes, as long as you follow basic safety steps. Use clean tools, label your mixes clearly and wear gloves when handling nicotine. Stick to trusted ingredients and always measure accurately.

  • QWhat is nicotine?

    A

Nicotine is a naturally occurring substance found in tobacco plants. It’s a stimulant that can be addictive, but in vaping, it’s delivered without the harmful tar and many chemicals found in cigarettes. It’s available in different strengths to suit your needs.

  • QWhat is freebase nicotine e-liquid?

    A

Freebase nicotine is the most common form of nicotine in e-liquid. It offers a stronger throat hit, especially at higher strengths, and is ideal for those who enjoy that sensation or are transitioning from smoking.

  • QWhat is nicotine salt e-liquid?

    A

Nicotine salts (nic salts) are a smoother form of nicotine, absorbed quickly by the body. They deliver a gentler throat hit, even at higher strengths, making them ideal for beginners or those who prefer a milder vaping experience.

  • QWhat is PG/VG ratio in e-liquid?

    A

E-liquid contains Propylene Glycol (PG) and Vegetable Glycerine (VG). The ratio determines the vaping experience:

    • PG: Thinner, carries flavour well, provides stronger throat hit.
    • VG: Thicker, produces more vapour, offers smoother hit. Different ratios suit different devices and styles.
  • QWhat is 50/50 e-liquid?

    A

50/50 e-liquid contains equal parts PG and VG. It’s balanced for flavour and vapour and works well in most mouth-to-lung (MTL) kits, such as starter kits or pod systems.

  • QWhat is a 70/30 e-liquid?

    A

This e-liquid has 70% VG and 30% PG. It’s designed for sub-ohm vaping, delivering bigger clouds and smoother hits, best used in high-powered kits and with low-resistance coils.

  • QWhat is in vape liquid?

    A

    Vape liquid usually contains:

    • Propylene Glycol (PG)
    • Vegetable Glycerine (VG)
    • Nicotine (optional)
    • Flavourings All ingredients are food-grade or pharmaceutical-grade and meet safety standards, especially in the UK and EU.
  • QWhat e-liquid is best for sub-ohm vaping?

    A

For sub-ohm vaping (coils below 1.0Ω), choose high VG e-liquids, such as 70/30 or 80/20 VG/PG blends. These provide large vapour clouds and smooth inhales, but they work best in powerful vape kits.

  • QWhat e-liquid is best for a mouth-to-lung kit?

    A

For MTL vaping (coils above 1.0Ω), use 50/50 e-liquids or nicotine salts. These provide a satisfying throat hit, good flavour, and work perfectly with lower-powered devices.

  • QHow long can I use e-liquid for once the bottle is open?

    A

Once opened, e-liquid lasts around 6–12 months if stored in a cool, dark place. Over time, flavour and nicotine strength can degrade. Always check for changes in smell, taste, or colour.

  • QHow long will a 10ml bottle of e-liquid last?

    A

It depends on how often you vape:

    • Light vaper: May last several days to a week.
    • Heavy vaper: Might use 1–2 bottles per day. Sub-ohm vaping uses more liquid, so bottles will run out quicker than with MTL vaping.
  • QWhy is my e-liquid changing colour in my tank?

    A

E-liquid can darken due to oxidation, especially when exposed to light and air. Nicotine reacts with oxygen, causing colour changes. It’s normal and safe unless the liquid smells or tastes off.

  • QWhat is the best vape juice brand?

    A

This is subjective, but popular UK brands include Vampire Vape, Riot Squad, IVG, Dinner Lady, and Twelve Monkeys. Choose a reputable brand that suits your taste, device, and nicotine preference.

  • QHow much does vape liquid cost?

    A

In the UK, a 10ml bottle typically costs £3 to £5, depending on the brand and nicotine type. Multi-buy deals and shortfills (larger bottles without nicotine) offer better value for money.

  • QWhy are some vape juices harsh?

    A

A harsh vape can be caused by:

    • High nicotine strength
    • Too much PG
    • Improper coil or wattage settings Nicotine salts or lower strength freebase liquids can provide a smoother experience.
  • QWhat does TPD e-Liquid Mean?

    A

TPD stands for Tobacco Products Directive – a set of EU (and UK) regulations ensuring vape products meet safety standards. TPD-compliant e-liquid bottles:

    • Are limited to 10ml
    • Contain max 20mg/ml nicotine
    • Include childproof caps and ingredient listings
  • Q
What are nicotine pouches?

    A

Nicotine pouches are small, discreet pouches you place between your gum and lip to absorb nicotine without smoking or vaping. They’re tobacco-free and come in a range of strengths and flavours.

  • QHow do I use a nicotine pouch?

    A

Just pop a pouch under your upper lip and leave it there. You’ll feel a tingling sensation at first—that’s normal. Each pouch usually lasts around 20 to 45 minutes depending on your preference.

  • QDo nicotine pouches contain tobacco?

    A

No, nicotine pouches are 100% tobacco-free. They contain nicotine extracted from tobacco but no leaf, dust or stem.

  • QCan I use nicotine pouches to quit smoking?

    A

Many people use them as an alternative to smoking or vaping, especially in places where those aren’t allowed. While they’re not officially classed as stop-smoking aids, they can help reduce your nicotine intake over time.

  • QHow strong are nicotine pouches?

    A

They come in a variety of strengths, from low to extra strong. If you’re new to them or switching from smoking or vaping, it’s best to start with a lower strength and adjust based on how you feel.

  • Q
Are nicotine pouches safe?

    A

Nicotine pouches are considered safer than smoking as they don’t involve combustion or inhalation. However, they still contain nicotine, which is an addictive substance, so they’re best used mindfully.

  • QCan I use nicotine pouches anywhere?

    A

Yes, that’s one of their big advantages. You can use them at work, on public transport or anywhere smoking or vaping isn’t allowed. They’re discreet, odourless and don’t produce vapour.

  • Q
What do nicotine pouches taste like?

    A

There’s a wide range of flavours including mint, fruit, coffee and even liquorice. Some are sweet, some are icy and some are quite neutral—there’s something for every palate. For example, Poke Nicotine Pouches come in five flavours: Citrus, Mint, Raspberry, Tropical and Watermelon.

  • QHow should I dispose of a used pouch?

    A

After use, pop it in a bin. Many tins have a built-in compartment for used pouches so you can store them until you find a bin.

  • Q
Can I swallow the pouch by accident?

    A

It’s unlikely but if it happens, don’t panic. The materials are food-safe and non-toxic. That said, it’s best to keep them in place under your lip and out of reach of children and pets.

  • QWhat are nic salts?

    A

Nic salts, or nicotine salts, are a type of e-liquid that uses a smoother form of nicotine found naturally in tobacco leaves. They’re absorbed more quickly by the body and deliver a faster, more satisfying hit compared to traditional freebase nicotine.

  • QWhat’s the difference between nic salts and regular e-liquid?

    A

The main difference is how the nicotine is formulated. Nic salts are smoother at higher strengths and provide a more cigarette-like experience, making them ideal for those looking to quit smoking. Freebase nicotine tends to be harsher at higher strengths and better suited to sub-ohm vaping.

  • QWho should use nic salts?

    A

Nic salts are perfect for new vapers, recent ex-smokers or anyone who wants a stronger nicotine hit without the throat irritation. They’re also great for discreet, low-powered devices like pod kits.

  • QCan I use nic salts in any vape device?

    A

Nic salts work best in low-wattage devices like pod systems or starter kits. Using them in high-powered sub-ohm devices can result in too much nicotine delivery and a harsh experience, so it’s not recommended.

  • QWhat nicotine strengths do nic salts come in?

    A

Most nic salts come in strengths ranging from 10mg to 20mg, with 20mg being the legal maximum in the UK. Some brands also offer lower strengths like 5mg for those wanting to cut down gradually.

  • QDo nic salts produce big clouds?

    A

No, nic salts are usually used in devices that produce less vapour. They’re designed more for stealthy, satisfying puffs rather than cloud chasing.

  • Q
Do nic salts taste different from regular e-liquids?

    A

Not really. In fact, because nic salts are smoother, the flavour often comes through more clearly. They’re available in a wide range of flavours, from tobacco and menthol to fruit and dessert blends.

  • QHow long does a bottle of nic salt e-liquid last?

    A

It depends on how often you vape and the size of your device’s tank or pod. A 10ml bottle can last a few days to a week for most average users, especially since you tend to use less with higher nicotine strengths.

  • QAre nic salts better for quitting smoking?

    A

Many vapers find nic salts more satisfying when quitting because they deliver nicotine more efficiently. The smoother throat hit also makes the transition from cigarettes more comfortable.

  • QCan I mix nic salts with other e-liquids?

    A

It’s generally best to use nic salts on their own, especially since they’re designed for specific devices. Mixing them with freebase liquids can affect the nicotine strength and performance of your device.

  • Q
What are nicotine shots?

    A

Nicotine shots, also known as nic shots, are small bottles of concentrated nicotine solution used to increase the nicotine strength of nicotine-free or low-nicotine e-liquids. They allow users to customise their nicotine levels.

  • QHow do I use nicotine shots?

    A

Add the appropriate amount of nicotine shot to your nicotine-free or low-nicotine e-liquid, then shake well to blend. The amount you add depends on the nicotine strength you want to achieve.

  • QWhat nicotine strengths are available in nicotine shots?

    A

Nicotine shots typically come in strengths of 15mg, 18mg, and 20mg, so you can choose the concentration that best suits your preference.

  • QCan I use nicotine shots in any e-liquid?

    A

Nicotine shots are designed for use with nicotine-free or low-nicotine e-liquids. They’re perfect for DIY mixing, allowing you to customise your nicotine content.

  • Q
What is the base liquid in nicotine shots?

    A

Nicotine shots usually contain a base of propylene glycol (PG) or vegetable glycerin (VG), which helps dilute the concentrated nicotine. PG gives a stronger throat hit, while VG offers a smoother experience with larger vapour clouds.

  • QAre nicotine shots safe to use?

    A

When used correctly, nicotine shots are safe. Follow the instructions carefully and mix properly. Since nicotine is addictive, always handle with care and store out of reach of children and pets.

  • Q
Can I use nicotine shots in sub-ohm tanks?

    A

Yes, nicotine shots can be used in sub-ohm tanks. However, due to the higher vapour production, lower nicotine strengths are often recommended to avoid an overly intense throat hit.

  • Q
Do nicotine shots have any flavour?

    A

Nicotine shots are generally flavourless, but some brands offer flavoured versions. Always check the product description to confirm if a flavour is included.

  • Q
Can I mix multiple nicotine shots together?

    A

Yes, you can mix different nicotine shot strengths to achieve your desired nicotine level. Just be sure to calculate the total nicotine strength carefully to avoid over-concentrating your e-liquid.

  • Q
How much nicotine do I need to add to my e-liquid?

    A

The amount of nicotine shot you add depends on the nicotine strength you want. For example, adding one 10ml nicotine shot to 50ml of nicotine-free e-liquid will give you a 3mg nicotine strength.

  • Q
What Are the Different Types of Vape Pod Kits?

    A

When it comes to pod vape kits, there are four main types to choose from, each offering different levels of convenience, customisation, and cost. The two most common are closed pod systems and open pod systems, but you’ll also find pod mod kits and disposable vapes on the market.

Closed Pod System (Prefilled Pod Kit)

Closed pod systems are ideal for beginners or those seeking maximum convenience. These devices use pre-filled, non-refillable pods, so there’s no need to handle e-liquid or change coils. Simply replace the used pod with a new one when it’s empty.

    • Pros: Extremely easy to use, mess-free, portable, and low maintenance. Great for on-the-go vaping.

    • Cons: Limited to the flavours and nicotine strengths provided by the pod manufacturer; generally higher cost per use.

Open Pod System (Refillable Pod Kit)

Open pod kits allow you to fill the pods yourself with any compatible e-liquid, offering more flexibility in flavours and nicotine strengths. These are often more cost-effective and versatile than closed systems.

    • Beginner-friendly open pod kits usually have fixed-coil pods—you replace the entire pod after 5–10 refills.

    • Advanced kits allow you to swap out just the coil, which means fewer pod replacements and lower long-term costs.

    • Pros: Choose from a wide range of e-liquid flavours, lower running costs, and more customisation.

    • Cons: Slightly more maintenance; you’ll need to refill and eventually change pods or coils.

    Pod Mod Kit

Pod mods are powerful open pod systems with larger batteries and often sub-ohm capabilities. These devices provide advanced features like variable wattage, airflow control, and enhanced vapour production.

    • Pros: Ideal for experienced vapers, greater vapour output, customisable settings, and suitable for both MTL (mouth-to-lung) and DTL (direct-to-lung) vaping.

    • Cons: Bulkier than standard pod kits and require more knowledge to operate.

    Disposable Vape (Single-use Pod Kit)

Disposables are a simplified form of closed pod systems where the entire device is used once and then disposed of. Popular brands include Elf Bar and Lost Mary.

    • Pros: No setup or maintenance, ready to use out of the box, perfect for short-term or backup use.

    • Cons: Not environmentally friendly and more expensive in the long run compared to refillable options.

  • Q
What’s the difference between RDA, RTA and RDTA tanks?

    A

RDAs require you to drip e-liquid directly onto the coil and wick, offering strong flavour and control but needing frequent dripping. RTAs have a built-in tank, combining rebuildable coils with added convenience. RDTAs blend both designs, giving you dripping-style performance with a built-in reservoir beneath the build deck.

  • Q
Which type is best for flavour?

    A

RDAs are often considered the best for pure flavour, as the vapour comes straight from freshly dripped e-liquid. However, well-built RTAs and RDTAs can still deliver excellent flavour if properly wicked and maintained.

  • QAre rebuildable atomisers suitable for beginners?

    A

They’re generally aimed at experienced users, but if you’re confident with coils and wicking, a simple RDA or RTA can be a great introduction to rebuildables. Just be prepared for a bit of a learning curve if you’re new to it.

  • QWhat do I need to use an RDA, RTA or RDTA?

    A

You’ll need a compatible mod, wire or pre-made coils, vape cotton and your favourite e-liquid. A basic toolkit with ceramic tweezers, wire cutters and a coil jig will also come in handy.

  • Q
Do I need to build my own coils?

    A

Not necessarily. You can buy pre-wrapped coils to save time, though many enthusiasts enjoy making their own for full control over resistance and performance.

  • QHow do I wick these types of tanks properly?

    A

Proper wicking is key to avoiding dry hits or leaks. In RDAs, cotton should sit snugly in the coil and lightly touch the juice well. In RTAs and RDTAs, careful placement in the wicking ports ensures smooth e-liquid flow without flooding the deck.

  • QWhat are the benefits of an RDTA over an RTA?

    A

RDTAs offer a similar experience to RDAs, with direct coil access and strong flavour, but with the added bonus of a tank underneath. This reduces the need to carry extra e-liquid while still enjoying the performance of a dripper.

  • QCan I use high-VG e-liquid with these tanks?

    A

Yes, all three types handle high-VG e-liquid well, especially when wicked correctly. They’re often preferred by vapers chasing thick clouds and rich flavour.

  • QDo these tanks leak easily?

    A

They can if not wicked properly. RTAs are especially prone to leaking if airflow and cotton placement aren’t right. RDAs usually don’t leak unless over-dripped, and RDTAs strike a balance when built correctly.

  • QWhich type is best for cloud chasing?

    A

RDAs are often the go-to for serious cloud chasers, as they allow for large builds and wide-open airflow. RDTAs also do well in this area, while RTAs can vary depending on the design.

  • QWhat are refillable pods?

  • QWHAT IS A VAPE TANK?

    A

A vape tank is the part of your vape device that stores e-liquid and contains the coil, which heats the liquid into vapour. As you vape, e-liquid is gradually used up and needs topping up regularly to prevent a burnt taste. Keeping your tank filled also protects the coil and ensures a smooth vaping experience.

For tips on getting the most out of your coils, check out our [Vape Coil Guide].

  • Q
HOW DOES A VAPE TANK WORK?

    A

A vape tank works by feeding e-liquid to the coil via wicking material (usually cotton). When you press the fire button (or inhale on an auto-draw device), the coil heats up, vapourising the e-liquid into inhaleable vapour. Airflow enters through adjustable vents, cooling the coil and allowing you to customise vapour production.

  • Q
WHAT IS THE BEST VAPE TANK IN THE UK?

    • Open airflow wide for more vapour

    • Inhale direct-to-lung (DTL) style for bigger draws

  • QMy battery won’t charge

    A

If your battery is not charging it may be due to a number of different factors. Firstly, ensure that the charger you are using is the correct charger for the battery. Next, make sure that you are charging the battery the correct way. Some batteries are charged via the top connection (510 charger), others charged from the bottom via a micro USB. Mods that take external batteries require an external charger for the battery cells, although some also have a micro-usb port.

  • QMy battery won’t turn on

    A

Make sure that your battery is charged significantly before using it. The batteries we send out do have a charge in them but it is possible that a battery can have lost its charge.
Different devices have different methods to turn the battery on. The most common ways to turn the battery on are as follows:
Click the power button rapidly three times
Click the power button rapidly five times

  • QWhat is the lifespan of the atomizer and how do I tell it needs replacing?

    A

  • QMy clearomizer/tank is leaking

    A

This could be for a few reasons, it could be that the coil is flooding due to over priming, firing at an insufficient wattage or a burnt coil. If your atomiser head is burnt/deteriorated, it is unable to further saturate e-liquid; causing leakage. You will need to replace your atomiser head in order to resolve the leakage.

  • QCan I use the same clearomizer/tank with another liquid?

    A

Yes you can, but it is recommended that you clean the clearomizer/tank meticulously to remove the former flavour. After a few vapes, the former flavour should disappear. If it does not, the coil may be compromised.

  • QWhat coil resistance should I use in my e-cigarette?

    A

Unless you are specifically using a sub ohm device, this typically comes down to personal preference. Below is a summary of pros and cons for using high or low resistance coils.
    Low resistance coils
    · More vapour produced
    · Warmer vapour
    · Potentially more intense flavour
    · Drains battery quicker
    · Increased likelihood of dry hits
    · Uses more e-liquid per puff
    High resistance coils
    · Less vapour produced
    · Cooler vapour
    · Potentially more intense flavour
    · Drains battery slower
    · Less chance of dry hits
    · Uses less e-liquid per puff

  • QWhat difference does coil resistance make?

    A

E-cigarette coils are available in a variety of resistances which can be found printed on the packaging and typically on the coil itself. These are indicated by a number followed by the word “ohms” or the symbol “Ω” – for example 0.5 ohms or 0.5 Ω.

  • QWhat are ohms?

    A

Coil resistance is measured in “ohms” which essentially indicates how quickly electricity is able to travel through something. In short, the lower the coil resistance, the easier it is for electricity from your battery to travel through the coil. How does the coil resistance affect my e-cigarette? Essentially, the lower the coil resistance the quicker the coil will heat up, creating more vapour and typically a warmer hit. A higher coil resistance will take longer for the coil to heat up, producing less vapour and typically a cooler hit.

  • QWhat is an e-cigarette?

    A

An Electronic cigarette (e-cig) is a portable, battery-powered device that simulates smoking by vaporising E-liquid (containing PG and/or VG) and flavouring yet still delivering nicotine (nicotine levels can vary, down to 0 mg, depending on what the user wants), but without the other 3,999+ chemicals hidden in cigarettes. It generates a smoke-like vapour and provides the same hand-to-mouth, inhalation experience as smoking. It has been shown to reduce cravings among smokers, not just for nicotine, but also for the relaxation, associated with inhaling and exhaling vapour.

  • QHow does an e-cigarette work?

    A

  • QIs vaping right for me?

    A

If you’re an adult smoker then the answer is yes. Non-smokers should not take up nicotine in any form. The addictiveness of nicotine as provided by vaping devices is as yet not fully understood, but it should be assumed that it does have the potential to cause dependence.

  • QWhat is the cost?

    A

  • QWhat do I need to get started?

    A

We recommend that you purchase one of our kits that come complete with everything you need to get started. In addition, we recommend that you purchase extra e-liquid with your kit to ensure that you have sufficient supplies.

  • QAll e-liquids consists of vegetable glycerine, propylene glycol, flavourings, nicotine and in some cases colouring

    A

  • QWhat e-liquid should I purchase?

    A

There is no one-size fits all answer here, so the best thing you can do is to try out a few e-liquids and see which one suits you. Interestingly, don’t assume that you need an authentic tobacco flavour. There are some good ones out there, but we find that the vast majority of vapers end up choosing a flavour other than tobacco, and this happens very quickly if they try a few different ones to begin with. In terms of PG/VG, you’ll have to try for yourself and decide what you like.

  • QWhat strength e-liquid should I purchase?

    A

This is, in a way, the trickiest question of all because ultimately it’s a personal preference. You need to try out vaping to see what you like. Some vapers simply prefer a stronger nicotine e-liquid but on a lower powered device, whereas others prefer less nicotine but on a more powerful device. And some people are somewhere in the middle! Also, vapers differ in how much nicotine they need, and how much they want to vape overall. So, if you want to vape less, use a stronger e-liquid, if you find you’re getting too much nicotine from the amount you like to vape, move to a less strong liquid.
