How Many Puffs Does a 10ml Nic Salt E-Liquid Give?

Nic salts

Most vapers get somewhere between 600 and 1,500 puffs from a 10ml bottle of nic salt. Here is where that range comes from, what pushes you to one end of it, and how to stretch a bottle without changing what you vape.

Only got a minute?
  • Expect 600 to 1,500 puffs from a 10ml bottle. A low-power pod sits near the top of that range, a higher-wattage kit near the bottom. Browse the full nic salt range.
  • Power is the biggest single factor. Roughly, the more watts you push, the more liquid each second of inhale turns into vapour, so a 12W pod can outlast a 25W kit by a factor of two on the same bottle.
  • Puff length matters as much as puff count. Three seconds instead of two is 50% more liquid per puff, which is why two people with the same kit report very different numbers.
  • Most people finish a 10ml in three to seven days. That is the honest real-world answer, and it is a more useful number than a puff count.
  • You can stretch a bottle by dropping the wattage, keeping airflow tighter, priming coils properly and storing the bottle cool and dark.

The short answer

A 10ml bottle of nic salt e-liquid gives most UK vapers between 600 and 1,500 puffs. That is a wide window, and anyone who quotes you a single number is guessing. The bottle is a fixed volume of liquid; the puff count depends entirely on how much of that liquid your device turns into vapour each time you press the button or draw on the mouthpiece.

If you want a rule of thumb rather than a range, a typical refillable pod kit run at sensible settings gets around 1,000 puffs from 10ml, and a 10ml bottle lasts an average user three to seven days. Heavier vapers on higher-powered kits will be at the shorter end, and people who came off cigarettes recently and vape in short sessions will be at the longer end.

Nic salts make this question more interesting than it looks. Because salt nicotine is smoother at higher strengths, most people vape it at 10mg or 20mg in a low-power kit, and that combination is the most efficient way to vape there is. You are getting more nicotine from less liquid, so the bottle goes further than the same 10ml of freebase in a sub-ohm tank would. If you are not sure what strength suits you, our guide to how much nicotine you should vape walks through it.

How these puff estimates are worked out

It is worth being upfront about the maths, because puff counts get quoted online as if they were measured in a lab. They are not. Every figure in this guide, and on every other site, is an estimate built from the same simple calculation.

A device consumes a rough amount of e-liquid per second of firing, and that amount rises with power. A low-power mouth-to-lung pod at 10W to 14W uses in the region of 0.004ml to 0.006ml per second. A mid-power pod at around 20W uses closer to 0.008ml per second. A sub-ohm coil at 40W or more can use 0.015ml per second or more. Multiply by a two second puff and you get the liquid used per puff, then divide 10ml by that figure.

Work it through and a 12W pod taking two second puffs uses about 0.01ml a puff, which is roughly 1,000 puffs from 10ml. A 40W kit taking the same two second puff uses about 0.03ml, which is nearer 330 puffs, although in practice people take shorter puffs on higher-powered kits and vape them less often, which is why the published range bottoms out around 500 to 600 rather than 300.

So treat every number below as an informed estimate with a margin of error of a few hundred puffs either way, not a specification. The useful part is not the absolute figure, it is the comparison between one setup and another. Our guide to how long a 100ml lasts uses the same method on a bigger bottle if you want to sanity check it.

What actually changes the puff count

Four things move the number, and they compound. Two of them are settings you control, one is habit, and one is the hardware you bought.

Power output. This is the one most people underestimate. Wattage is not just about how warm the vapour feels; it is a direct measure of how quickly the coil boils liquid off the wick. Going from 12W to 24W does not make the vapour twice as nice, but it does roughly double your consumption. If you have a kit with adjustable power and you have never touched the setting, that is the first place to look.

Puff duration and frequency. A two second draw and a three second draw feel almost identical in the moment, yet the longer one uses half again as much liquid. Chain vaping compounds it further, because a hot coil vaporises faster than a cool one and a wick that has not had time to resaturate gives you a drier, less satisfying puff that you then chase with another.

Coil resistance and airflow. A higher resistance coil, say 0.8Ω or 1.0Ω, paired with a restricted mouth-to-lung draw is the efficient setup. Mesh coils below 0.6Ω with open airflow produce more vapour per puff and drink accordingly. If the mouth-to-lung and direct-to-lung distinction is new to you, read choosing a vape by inhalation style.

Nicotine strength. Counter-intuitively, a higher strength usually makes a bottle last longer. At 20mg you are satisfied in a handful of puffs; at 6mg you keep going for longer to reach the same place. This is the main reason nic salts are more economical than they look, and it is covered in more depth in our guide to the strongest nic salt you can buy in the UK.

The efficient setup
A 1.0Ω or 0.8Ω coil, 10W to 14W, tight airflow, 10mg or 20mg nic salt, two second puffs. Expect 1,200 to 1,500 puffs from 10ml.
The thirsty setup
A 0.4Ω mesh coil, 25W or more, open airflow, low strength, three second puffs. Expect 500 to 700 puffs from the same bottle.

Puffs per 10ml by device type

This is the practical version of the maths above, grouped by the kind of kit people actually own. Find the row that matches yours.

Device type Typical power Estimated puffs per 10ml Consumption
Compact pod system 8W to 14W 1,000 to 1,500 Low
Refillable pod kit 12W to 20W 800 to 1,200 Moderate
Mesh coil pod 18W to 25W 600 to 900 Medium
Advanced sub-ohm kit 30W and above 500 to 700 High

Estimates based on typical e-liquid consumption per second of firing at each power band, assuming a two second puff. Your own figure will vary with puff length, airflow and coil condition.

One note on the bottom row. Nic salts at 10mg or 20mg are not designed for sub-ohm kits and should not be vaped in them; at 30W and above you would be taking in far more nicotine than is comfortable or sensible. If you run a sub-ohm tank, use a low strength freebase or a shortfill instead. The row is here for comparison, not as a recommendation.

For the right pairing, a mouth-to-lung pod kit with coils around 0.8Ω to 1.2Ω is what nic salts are built for. Something like the Vaporesso Xros 5 Mini or the Oxva Xlim Pro 2 runs close to the efficient band, and the Xlim Pro 2 also takes a higher-resistance 0.8Ω pod if you want to push the bottle further, and we go through the options in detail in which pod kit works best with nic salt e-liquids.

How to make a 10ml last longer

If your bottle is disappearing faster than you would like, these five changes will move the number without making the vape worse. Work through them in order; the first two do most of the work.

  1. 1
Drop the wattage two or three watts at a time. Go down until the flavour thins out, then come back up one step. Most people are vaping several watts above the point where the flavour stops improving, and every watt you take off is liquid saved.
  2. 2
Shorten the puff and leave a gap. Aim for two seconds rather than three, and give the wick 20 to 30 seconds between puffs to resaturate. You get a fuller flavour from a properly wetted wick, so this usually improves the vape as well as saving liquid.
  3. 3
Close the airflow down. A tighter mouth-to-lung draw pulls less air across the coil, which means less vapour per puff and a warmer, more concentrated flavour. It also gets you closer to the draw of a cigarette, which is what most nic salt users want anyway.
  4. 4
Prime every new coil and let it soak. Put a few drops directly onto the cotton, fill the pod, then leave it five to ten minutes before the first puff. A coil that gets dry-fired on day one tastes burnt for its whole life and gets replaced early, which wastes both liquid and coils. Our guide on how to fill a pod kit correctly covers the rest.
  5. 5
Try a step up in strength. If you are on 10mg and constantly reaching for the device, 20mg may well satisfy you in fewer puffs and make the bottle last noticeably longer. Go the other way if 20mg feels harsh.

Storage keeps the last puffs as good as the first

A 10ml bottle that lasts you a week does not have time to go off, but the spare bottles in the drawer do. Nicotine oxidises when it meets light, heat and air, which turns the liquid darker and flattens the flavour. Fruit and citrus flavours fade first; menthol and tobacco hold up better.

Keep bottles upright in a cool, dark cupboard with the caps tight, away from radiators, windowsills and car dashboards. Do not decant a 10ml into anything else, because the extra air in a part-filled container speeds the whole process up. Stored properly, an unopened nic salt bottle is good for well over a year, and there is more on this in our e-liquid shelf life and storage guide.

One practical consequence: if you buy a multipack to get through the Vaping Products Duty coming in on 1 October 2026 at £2.20 per 10ml plus VAT, storage becomes the thing that protects your stock. Pre-duty stock can be sold until 31 March 2027, so a sensibly stored shelf of bottles holds its quality for as long as it needs to.

Signs you are getting through liquid too quickly

There is no wrong amount to vape, but there are a few signals that your habits, rather than your hardware, are driving the numbers.

You are refilling more than once a day on a 2ml pod. You feel light-headed, get a sore throat or notice hiccups, all of which point to too much nicotine too fast. You reach for the device without deciding to. Coils are lasting days rather than a couple of weeks. Or the flavour has gone muted, which happens when a wick never fully recovers between puffs and you compensate by vaping more.

The fix is usually the same short list from the previous section: less power, shorter puffs, longer gaps, and a strength that satisfies you rather than one you have to chase. If none of that helps, the kit may simply be wrong for nic salts. A high-powered device with open airflow will always drink liquid, whatever you do with it.

Which nic salt flavours UK vapers buy

Flavour does not change how many puffs you get, but it does change how satisfied you are with each one, and that quietly affects consumption. A flavour you like stops you hunting for the next puff.

UK buying patterns are consistent. Fruit and menthol dominate, with mixed berry blends the single biggest group, followed by mint and menthol, then sweets and slush profiles. Cool, icy versions of fruit flavours outsell their warmer counterparts by a wide margin, largely because so many nic salt users came across from menthol cigarettes.

Reliable picks from the range include Fresh Mint by Bar Juice 5000 for a clean all-day menthol, and Blueberry Sour Raspberry Elfliq for the sweet-and-sharp berry profile that keeps topping the sales lists. Both come in 10mg and 20mg. There is a wider rundown in our top nic salt e-liquids guide, and the whole 10ml e-liquid category is worth a browse if you want to build a multipack.

If refilling is not for you at all, a prefilled pod kit gives you the same nic salt experience with a sealed 2ml pod instead of a bottle, and the puff figures work out much the same because the hardware sits in the same power band.

Quick answers

How long does a 10ml nic salt bottle usually last?

Three to seven days for an average user, depending on the device and how often you vape. Light users on a low-power pod can stretch it well past a week.

Does a higher nicotine strength make the liquid last longer?

Usually yes. A stronger liquid satisfies you in fewer puffs, so you go back to the device less often. That is why 20mg salts often outlast 10mg in the same kit.

Why am I getting through liquid so fast?

High wattage, long draws, open airflow and chain vaping are the usual culprits, and they stack. Turning the power down and shortening your puffs makes the biggest difference.

Are pod systems more efficient than bigger kits?

Yes. Low-power pods with higher resistance coils use far less liquid per puff, which is exactly why they suit nic salts. A pod can easily get double the puffs a sub-ohm kit would from the same 10ml.

Does storage affect the flavour of a 10ml bottle?

It does. Sunlight and heat oxidise the nicotine and dull the flavour. Keep bottles capped, upright and in a cool dark cupboard and they stay good for well over a year.

Why is 10ml the biggest bottle with nicotine in it?

UK law limits nicotine-containing e-liquid bottles to 10ml and caps strength at 20mg/ml. Anything larger has to be sold as a zero nicotine shortfill with nic shots added separately.

All puff figures in this guide are estimates calculated from typical e-liquid consumption rates at each power band and will vary with your device, coil, airflow and puff length. Product availability and specifications reflect the range stocked at the time of writing and may change. For adult smokers and vapers aged 18+ only.
