Why nic salts need a particular kind of kit

A nicotine salt is nicotine bonded to an acid so it vaporises smoothly at low temperature. A 20mg salt on the right device feels smoother in the throat than a 6mg freebase on the wrong one. Put that same 20mg salt on a high-powered, airy device and it turns harsh.

So the hardware brief is short. You want a coil that runs at low heat, in practice 0.6Ω to 1.2Ω at roughly 10W to 18W, with 0.8Ω or higher for 20mg. You want a restricted mouth-to-lung draw. What to look for before you buy

Coil resistance and the pods on offer. Most modern pod kits ship with two pods: typically a 0.8Ω paired with either a lower-resistance 0.4Ω or 0.6Ω, or with a tighter 1.2Ω. For salts you’ll live on the higher-resistance one. A 1.2Ω option gives a tighter, cooler draw for 20mg that a 0.8Ω can’t quite match.

Wattage that stays low. A fixed-output kit is fine if its output is modest. An adjustable kit is better only if you use the adjustment: low for strong salts, higher only for 5mg or 10mg.

Pod kit, starter kit or prefilled kit?

Refillable pod kits, the five above, are the best value over time: a 10ml salt lasts an average user three to seven days, plus a pod every week or two. A starter kit is the same idea in a pen shape. Prefilled pod kits, such as the Lost Mary BM6000, are the easiest option but cost more per ml.

How to set up a pod kit for nic salts

   Fit the higher-resistance pod. If the box has a 0.8Ω and a 0.6Ω, start on the 0.8Ω. If it has a 1.2Ω, start there for 20mg. Save the lower-resistance pod for 5mg to 10mg salts or freebase liquid.

   Fill, then wait five minutes. Fill the pod through the top port with a 50/50 10ml salt and let the cotton soak before the first puff. A dry first puff on a fresh coil is how most pods get burnt.

   Close the airflow and set the power low. Start with the slider mostly shut and the wattage at the bottom of the pod’s recommended range. Open the airflow a notch at a time until the draw feels right.

Strength

Ratio

Flavour
