Keep your e-cig coils fresh for better flavour
Like many things, coils have a limited lifespan and need to be replaced periodically. The frequency of replacement depends on factors like usage habits and e-liquid composition, but proper care and maintenance will ensure they’re usable for longer. Each one can provide varying levels of flavour, vapour production, and throat hit. If you need a vape tool kit you can find them here.
If you have any questions about our products, check out our FAQs. You can get back to our main vape shop page here, or if you’ve had enough of maintaining your device, have a perusal of our disposable vapes.
FAQs
What’s the difference between a vape coil and a vape pod?
A vape coil is the heating element that vaporises your e-liquid. It sits inside a tank or pod and needs replacing regularly. A vape pod is a self-contained unit that usually includes the coil and the e-liquid chamber, and sometimes even comes pre-filled or refillable depending on the system.
How often should I change my coil or pod?
It varies depending on how much you vape, the type of e-liquid you use and your device, but a good rule of thumb is every 1–2 weeks for coils and every 1–3 weeks for pods. You’ll know it’s time when the flavour starts to taste burnt or muted.
How do I know which coil or pod is compatible with my device?
Always check the product name and specs. Coils and pods are usually brand-specific and sometimes even device-specific. If you’re not sure, just drop us a message—we’re happy to help.
Why does my vape taste burnt even with a new coil or pod?
This can happen if the coil or pod wasn’t properly primed. Always let the e-liquid soak into the coil for a few minutes before vaping and start at a lower wattage if your device allows. It gives the coil time to saturate and avoids dry hits.
Are pods better than tanks and coils?
It depends on your style. Pods are convenient, mess-free and great for beginners or people who want an easy setup. Tanks and coils offer more customisation, bigger clouds and are usually preferred by more experienced vapers.
What resistance coil should I choose?
Higher resistance (1.0Ω and above) is best for MTL (mouth-to-lung) vaping with stronger nicotine or nic salts. Lower resistance (below 1.0Ω, also known as sub-ohm) is ideal for DTL (direct-to-lung) vaping with bigger clouds and smoother hits. Check what your device supports before choosing.
Can I clean and reuse my vape coil or pod?
Coils are usually designed for single use and don’t perform well after cleaning. Some refillable pods can be rinsed and reused a couple of times but eventually the coil inside will wear out. If in doubt, replace it—it’ll taste better.
What affects coil lifespan?
A few things: how often you vape, the sweetness of your e-liquid (sugary liquids gunk up coils faster) and whether you’re using the right wattage. Treat your coils kindly and they’ll last longer!
Are pre-filled pods available or do I have to fill them myself?
Both options exist. Some pod systems use pre-filled pods you just pop in and go while others use refillable pods you can top up with your own e-liquid. Be sure to check the type your device takes.
Do you sell coils and pods in multi-packs?
Yes, most of our coils and pods are available in multi-packs to keep you stocked up and save a bit in the long run. Popular options include the VAPORESSO XROS COREX 2.0 REPLACEMENT PODS (4 PACK) and the OXVA XLIM V2 REPLACEMENT PODS (3 PACK) Have a browse and see what’s available for your device.
In technical terms, a vape coil is comprised of a wire wound in a spiral around the wicking material of your e-cigarette. This assembly is then installed in the atomizer head of your e-cigarette, with the coil bridging the positive and negative terminals of the battery. When you activate your e-cigarette, the wick absorbs e-liquid, the battery heats the coil, and the coil transforms the e-liquid in the wick into vapour. This vapour travels up through the chimney of your clearomizer or tank, providing inhalable vapour. Coil wire is typically crafted from various conductive, heat-resistant materials, with stainless steel being the most common choice. Some experienced vapers who employ mod kits for sub-ohm vaping opt to create their own coil configurations. They procure special alloy wires and their preferred wicking material, meticulously winding the coil wire, fitting it into their e-cigarette setup, and threading the wicking material through the coil. However, most vapers opt to purchase pre-made replacement coils for convenience.
Atomizer heads, also sometimes referred to as coils, are replaceable components that include the wick, coil, and casing as a single unit. Typically situated at the base of your tank, they allow the wick to absorb e-liquid during use or when the device is idle. Acquiring a pack of replacement atomizer coils ensures easy and reliable maintenance for your e-cigarette. Simply twist out the old “coil” (comprising the coil, wick, and casing) and replace it with a new one. Vape coils are available in various configurations such as single-coil, dual-coil, quad-coil, etc. This designation indicates the number of wicks and coil wires present, with single-coils having one of each, while dual-coils feature two of each — and so forth — heating the e-liquid simultaneously. Single coils demand less battery power and are simpler for advanced vapers to assemble for their mod kits, whereas dual-coil and higher configurations produce larger clouds and richer flavour. However, for most traditional vapers, these distinctions may not be relevant, as they primarily concern sub-ohm vapers.
